Alliance Israelite Universelle - KIAH (Kol Israel Haverim) is an organization that has few peers.
A hundred and fifty years ago, its founders created a bold educational framework in Europe to enable Jewish students to integrate into their surrounding environment by providing universal education, while simultaneously strengthening Jewish tradition.
KIAH was ahead of its time. Established in order to safeguard the rights of Jews worldwide, over the years it became an educational force that transformed the Jewish world. Over a million students have passed through its institutes and programs.
As in the past, today the Alliance seeks to promote a tolerant Judaism, to nurture general education, to promote social responsibility and to foster respect for the "other" in society. It develops programs in two main areas: social Jewish education and educational excellence, providing equal opportunity for all students.
Realising the hidden learning potential in the pupil, and training him/her to deal effectively with future challenges, depends on the following elements: self-image, learning enjoyment, unique learning methods, reflective thought, high educational standards, high science abilities, and a broad education, learning, and skills. All the pupils and sectors in Israel deserve conditions which will allow them to reach educational excellence, but the geo-social periphery needs far greater investment in order to achieve this.
A broad and inclusive Judaism, which honors values of social justice and realizes them in daily life, will free Israeli society from the mistaken conception which reflects the separation between state secular and state religious education. A fair representation of the traditional identity will lead to the creation of an educational climate, a feeling of belonging, capability, personal nurturing and educational achievements. Supporting schools in communities and working with them will allow the establishment of Jewish education and will develop a fruitful communication channel between different educational bodies regarding the Jewish tradition.
