A booklet dealing with a custom originating in the Thessaloniki Jewish community – Shabbat Al-Abbāy. A communal and festive event that took place on Shabbat Hanukkah, collecting and distributing fabrics and clothing to students and those in need. This custom spread to communities in Turkey and North Africa. The booklet presents Shabbat Al-Abbāy poems and two chapters dealing with the prominent values of the custom – charity and education. Each chapter contains midrash and sayings of sages, mainly from Turkey and its surroundings.
