Building an Identity-Clarifying Discourse through Beit Midrash Learning Sensitive to a Variety of Traditions and Identities
‘Morasha’ – Kol Israel Haverim is a school intervention program that cultivates a unifying Israeli Judaism in secular government schools, focusing on the socio-geographic periphery. The program guides school management, educational teams, and pupil leadership to develop a values-based discourse on Jewish-Israeli identity that leads to social action. This discourse gives expression to a wide variety of identities in Israeli society, while strengthening the skills and sense of capability of the participants through Beit Midrash dialogic learning.
The program trains a school coordinator and coaches teaching teams in leading learning processes and creating educational opportunities for engaging in clarifying Jewish-Israeli identity. At the same time, it establishes leadership groups of students, who themselves facilitate learning in a community setting in their classroom and at school events. Learning in small groups encourages expression for each student, and enables the empowerment of students whose position is not expressed in the classroom.
Authorized Program – Outcome Indicators:
- The school's teachers in the subjects of identity and belonging successfully pass an assessment test in the field of perceptions and positions on the subject of a cohesive Israeli Jewry.
- Student fraternity leaders will report a sense of ability and motivation to facilitate Jewish-Israeli values discourse, to study and teach Jewish sources.
- The school will receive a Certificate of Excellence in Jewish-Israeli Education or an Institutional Education Award, at least once every 4 years.
